LOCAL groups are set to directly benefit from the 2008 Caravan and Camping 4WD Expo which kicks off tomorrow (Friday) at the Wauchope Showground.
One group, the Westpac Rescue Helicopter Service’s Hastings Support Group, will man the Apex barbeque kiosk during the three day event.
The Expo attracts thousands of visitors to Wauchope and caters for a full range of leisure activities.
The group’s chairman, Bruce Cant, said the last minute offer to take over the operation of the barbeque at the Expo was too good to pass up.
“We are extremely grateful for the opportunity to raise these unexpected funds for the Westpac Rescue Helicopter Service,” Mr Cant said.
“We invite anyone who is attending this popular Expo at the showground over the next three days to come to the Apex kiosk, purchase a meal or drink, get some information on our group and how we raise funds for the rescue service.
“Our group raises funds throughout the year on behalf of the helicopter rescue service and this weekend is an added bonus for us.”
Mr Cant said the group’s most recent fundraiser – where volunteers made and sold over $2000 worth of lamingtons, was another example of their collective efforts.
“Our next major event on the fundraising calendar will be our Ducks 4 Dollars Race Day which is set down for September 28.”
This event is held on Rocks Ferry Reserve.
