Centre will celebrate

31/07/2008 10:23:00 AM
THE popular Wauchope Community Child Care Centre is celebrating National Aboriginal and Islander Children’s Day on the 4th of August.

The theme this year is “Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Families – Nurturing Our Children to Flourish”, which reinforces the message that we need to nurture our children in order for them to flourish, we need to encourage them to achieve their greatest potential, and enjoy a great quality of life.

To celebrate this day, we are holding a family/open day, in which we are inviting our families, and members of the community to come along and participate in activities, said director, Julia Deveney.

“We believe that fostering strong family relationships is important to the wellbeing and self esteem of our children,” she said.

“Children who have secure attachment relationships when they are young will develop a sense of belonging and long term resilience, giving them the skills to develop and maintain meaningful relationships as they go through their lives.

“The Darrabin Dancers Group will be in attendance, on the day, to entertain with some traditional dancing, and hold interactive workshops with our children.

“Touching on traditional language, dance, history and other topics, with an emphasis on the local area of Biripi Country.”

All members of the community are invited to join the staff – including their children – during the celebration at the Wauchope Community Child Care Centre, on August 4 at 10am.
