MORE than 20 years of service was recognised recently for a humble helper at Huntingdon Public School.
David Anderson has been keeping the small school’s grounds in top condition for more than two decades.
The Department of Education and Training recognised his services with a 20 year service certificate.
The Huntingdon Public School staff members and students celebrated his award at the school.
Mr Anderson is the general assistant and his jobs include mowing lawns, weeding, repair jobs, general maintenance and any other odd jobs that population off.
He works at Huntingdon Public School and Byabarra one day a week and says he has seen some changes over time at both schools.
“I’ve definitely seen some major changes over the years,” he said.
“Event the way kids are educated is completely different.
“There is more money spent on the schools now which is great.”
Mr Anderson says there have been some pretty special moments over the years.
“There are a lot of great memories that’s for sure,” he said.
Watching kids grow up through the schools and then seeing them in the street and saying hello is a great feeling.
“There are ex students who now have their kids coming through the school which is pretty special,” he said.
The family atmosphere of the smaller schools is a big plus according to Mr Anderson who owns his own blind cleaning business.
loving his work helps to make it easier when finding time outside of his business to help out at the school.
And Mr Anderson believes he’s still got a few more years in him yet.
“I just love what I do.” He said.
“I’ll keep doing it until its time to hang up the boots.”
