FORMER Wauchope resident, Mick Kirkness has scored two memorable wins on successive weekends in the tough American Flat Track Championships.
Earlier this month, Kirkness won his first Expert Twins Final at Greenville Ohio and backed that up with a great win at Hagerstown on Saturday (US time).
At Greenville, Kirkness qualified 3rd and with that went onto lead his heat until being pipped on the line by Californian Chad Cose.
With a front row start in the 12 lap main Mick jumped straight to the lead before a red flag for a Cose crash.
The next start had the same out come and would continue for a further two laps before second placed, and series leader Brandon Lee Robinson went down.
From the 10 lap restart this time, no dramas occurred which left Mick out front to eventually win by 1.6 seconds.
The Expert class, along with acting as a feeder to the Grand Nation Series, has its own championship status.
After racing only four finals Mick has now moved to fourth with 69 points, and is hoping to be able to move into second by series end, after Pennsylvanian Robinson has amassed 5 wins and 150 points already.
At Hagerstown, Kirkness was in a tight battle for a placing before eventually taking the lead at the halfway point in the race.
He eventually won the race by just .198 of a second.
