TO coincide with the Centenary of Rugby League in Australia, NSW Country Rugby League will have a side represent the Cups and 2nd Division Competitions within the League.
The team was chosen after the Toyota Centenary Trophy, which the Hastings League reached the semi final in which they were defeated by the Castlereagh Cup side, who were the eventual winners of the competition.
From the competition, which consisted of eight sides, a NSW Country team was selected to play a team representing Outback Queensland in Winton.
Three players from the Hastings League, Nick Knox (Macquarie Hotel), Leigh Costigan (Long Flat) and Keiran Roberts (Kendall), have been chosen in the NSW Country side.
The team assembled on Wednesday in Sydney, and will travel to Brisbane today, before flying to Mount Isa and then a bus to Winton, where the game will be played.
The players will play on Saturday before returning on the Sunday, with the team traveling to Longreach, before flying back to Brisbane then Sydney.
The game will coincide with the annual camel races in Winton, and is part of a major celebration in the town.
The team will be coached by Frank Fish from Narrabri, who has coached NSW Country to victories over City, in the old Country v City games, as well as coaching NSW Residents, and is a current NSW Country selector and a former NSW State of Origin selector.
Knox will play fullback while Lefty Costigan is selected in the second row. Roberts has been named on the bench.
