MACQUARIE Hotel captain coach, George Jones has one message for the Kendall Blues who will meet the Sharks in the Hastings League grand final on Saturday: ‘We’ll be ready’.
The Blues progressed to the grand final match-up following another epic Hastings League encounter against Long Flat last Saturday.
The Sharks outfit will field a full strength side after a few minor injury worries were given the all clear during the week.
The side is serious about doing everything they possibly can to make sure this weekend’s clash is a one sided affair.
“The boys are deadset ready to play,” Jones said.
“The whole side was out on the weekend watching the Kendall Blues and Dragons game.
“We were just hoping they smashed each other to pieces.”
The Sharks side will face Kendall for the second time in three weeks and hope to play better than their semi final clash.
Captain Jones said the side was not happy with the way the side played in that semi final clash, despite the win.
The Sharks are fine-tuned ready to rumble with Jones looking to five-eighth Mitch Walker, Sam Dungay, Dion Glassie, Nick Knox and Shaun Morley for inspiration. He is quick to add that it will be a team effort across the park which will get them over the line.
“We have great depth in the side and everyone knows they have to step up to get us over the line.
“We’re training as usual and the confidence is high so if we play to our best I can’t see the Blues getting close.
“It’s not cocky – we’re confident but there’s no way in the world we’ll be complacent,” he said.
Jones has one hurdle to overcome: a judiciary meeting on Tuesday night to fight a head high tackle charge.
The reception for the Macquarie Hotel prop from the Kendall crowd is likely to be icy but that isn’t something he worries about he says.
“I love it,” he says.
“The more they roar and yell at me the more I use it to my advantage
“They hate me but if I pulled on a Kendall jumper it would be the other way around and I would have the Macquarie crowd on my back!
“It’s funny how it works but I’m there to play football,” he said.
